We’re meeting for coffee at The Howling Rooster in Kenmore on November 13 at 8:00 am and we can chat all things WordPress …or not, as we see fit. This is an informal gathering to get to know one another and talk shop.
Five of us had a great conversation at our WP Buffalo breakfast last time at Coffee & Stone in North Tonawanda. Among other things we discussed:
- Becky told us about WordCamp Canada, which she attended in Ottawa last week
- Bill’s holiday sale (https://justplayfulevents.com/christmas-in-the-village-2025/ )
- Switching from page builders to Gutenberg https://wordpress.org/plugins/gutenberg/
- Website price points – levels of monetary “worth”. What makes a website more expensive? Uniqueness, quality and depth of content, number of pages (amount of content), functionality, SEO, quality of design, post-launch support … so many more things
- Animations on sites, and how they affect interaction, interest, and speed
- Splitting attention between freelance work and a non-freelance job
- Discovery forms for clients – what do you put on yours?
- Using Upwork https://www.upwork.com/ to find clients
- Finding your niche, choosing your clients
- A website building platform called Framer https://www.framer.com/
- Membership works software (https://membershipworks.com/ )
- Image generation – Charles used Gemini to increase the quality of a client’s photo and give it the ambiance of another photo
- How helpful cats are when they sit on your keyboard, and (completely unrelated)…
- Replacing a keyboard on a laptop
I schedule these events at different venues around WNY so everyone can join if they want (and don’t want to drive half an hour first thing on a Thursday). If there’s another neighborhood or coffee house you’d like me to plan for, put it in the chat. I’m always up for finding new local coffee places.
